Scales of plankton patchiness: biomass versus demography Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Analyses of the spatial variability of zooplankton in a 100 x 100 km site in the northern North Sea show that the biomass has relatively small-scale but large-amplitude patchiness, whereas the stage structure of the dominant copepod, Calanus finmarchicus, is uncorrelated at these scales.
