Klein, Frieder Assistant Scientist, Marine Chemistry & Geochemistry

My research focuses on fluid-rock interactions in submarine and continental hydrothermal systems and their geochemical, biological, and geophysical implications. Topics of interest include early Earth alteration processes in submarine environments and implications for Archean seawater chemistry, fluid-rock interactions and implications for the emergence of life on Earth, chemolithoautotrophic life in the subseafloor fueled by fluid-rock interactions, active and fossil hydrothermal systems at plate margins, mineral carbonation and carbon sequestration, and hydrothermal processes affecting earthquake hazards in active fault zones (e.g., San Andreas Fault).
