Nicholson, David Assistant Scientist, Marine Chemistry & Geochemistry

Earth's climate is profoundly influenced by the biogeochemical cycling of carbon and other radiatively active elements. My interests lie in understanding the role of upper ocean ecosystems in cycling these elements in the ocean as well as interactions with the physical climate. My research to date, as well as my future goals relate to studying how the ocean regulates atmospheric pCO2 and the impact of climate change on ocean ecosystems. To this end, I seek to use the measurement and modeling of geochemical tracers and ocean ecosystems to address these questions. I utilize data, ranging from geochemical mesurements, to in situ sensors to remotely sensing products and models of varying complexity to interpret and give context to field measurements.
